Halton District School Board annually hosts a free Parent Involvement Committee Conference (PIC) which is open to all families (elementary and high school) in the Halton District School Board. This is the 9th annual conference which will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 8:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., at Craig Kielburger Secondary School (1151 Ferguson Drive, Milton).
The venue provides an exhibit area for promotion of community services, not-for-profit organizations as well as for-profit and commercial organizations. There is no cost to the exhibitors for the spaces.
This year’s “Achieving Excellence by Nurturing Empathy and Resilience in Students” conference theme will provide a variety of new workshops and will also include some that have been well received by parents in years past. Workshops will address numeracy, literacy, teaching kids about money management, promoting positive mental health for teens, community resources availability, helping students craft an academic and career pathway for success, high school course selections, managing behaviour and discipline, violence prevention and cyberbullying, and mental health and wellness.
This year’s keynote speakers are Craig Kielburger: “The World Needs Your Kid: How to Raise Kids Who Care and Contribute”, and Dr. Bruce Ferguson: “Working Together to Make our Children and Youth Successful”
