International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is #EachforEqual as we continue to address Gender Parity. The World Economic Forum’s 2020 Global Gender Gap Report states that it will take 99.5 years to achieve gender parity globally. Of the 153 countries assessed, Canada ranks #19 overall (a drop of -3 spots since 2018 and 2019), however only 49th as it pertains to Wage Equality for Similar Work.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, CFUW Milton and District is hosting its 4rd annual “March on Main” on Friday, March 6th @ 10:00 a.m. Starting at Milton Town Hall with a Proclamation by Mayor Gordon Krantz, we invite members of our community to march in downtown Milton to raise awareness for Gender Parity.
We recommend people arrive between 9:30 – 9:45.
This year we are proud to support our girls and women by collecting donations of feminine hygiene products, to be donated to the Salvation Army. Menstrual hygiene products are one of the most requested yet least donated items at food banks.
Come and show your support!
